Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering is a field of engineering that studies and applies the theories of electricity and electromagnetism.  It covers a range of subtopics that includes power distribution, control systems, electronics, signal processing and telecommunications.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines.  It applies the principles of materials science and physics for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.

The design involves the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems of buildings and facilities.  In addition, process piping connections such as water, air, and gas tie in from water, gas, and sewer mains to mechanical and process equipment.

Energy Management

Energy use in a building is one of the costliest parts of operating a building or facility.  Modern HVAC and lighting for example, have advanced in energy efficiency to where replacing existing systems and equipment will pay for itself through energy savings in relatively short periods of time.  HODGE provides evaluation and design services that consider if a building owner might benefit from upgrading current equipment and systems to more efficient ones that provide an acceptable return on investment.

Structural Design

Structural design applies engineering principles used for stationary objects such as buildings, structural equipment framework, and bridges, or mobile objects with rigid shapes.

The HODGE structural design and engineering team selects materials and member type, calculates sizes, and recommends configuration to carry loads in a safe and practical method.  This is achieved by first determining the criteria for acceptable performance.

Working closely with the client, the load or forces to be resisted are identified.  These “reactions” will set the basis of the structural design.  Other structural experience include and services are:

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a building.  It relies on a coordinated 3D model of the building that includes the Architecture, Structural systems, Mechanical systems, Plumbing Systems, and Electrical systems.  It becomes a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle.  HODGE uses a variety of Cad (Computer Aided Design) software programs including AutoCAD and REVIT to create the BIM 3D model that is used for life-cycle and cost analysis.
