Structural engineering

The HODGE structural engineering and design team aims to determine feasible solutions that will provide quality and efficient designs to our clients. We base our designs on a comprehensive understanding of the latest applicable building codes, material specifications, and engineering practices. We understand that collaboration is essential, and with the use of BIM software such as Autodesk Revit, we ensure our projects are coordinated and integrated with architectural requirements and other engineering disciplines as needed. The following are some of the structural engineering services available:

  • Evaluations + Structural Systems Investigations
  • Foundation Design
  • Structural Steel Design
  • Retaining Wall Design
  • Reinforced Concrete Design
  • Masonry Design
  • Wood + Timber Design

ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Energy usage and cost has continued to increase in buildings as owners and managers struggle to keep up with changing trends, climate conditions, and technologies. Energy benchmarks have been incorporated into codes and standards that most building types undergoing new construction or major renovations must meet in order to be approved by code officials.

In addition, existing buildings that have antiquated systems or that were not designed to current codes benefit from analyzing energy use to reduce cost of energy/maintenance and to improve occupant comfort.

HODGE provides expertise on the latest energy codes and technologies to assure that building designs meet owner requirements. HODGE evaluates and analyzes existing buildings and makes recommendations for improvements focusing on return on investment. HODGE provides experience in the following areas:

  • Analyze Existing Energy Usage + Utility Cost
  • Perform ASRAE Level I, II + III Energy Audits
  • Energy Star Benchmarking + Tracking
  • Trane Trace 700 + Energy Modeling
  • On-Site Renewable Energy Production
  • LEED Projects
  • ASHRAE 90.1 + International Energy
  • Conservation Code (IECC) Requirements
  • Verification of Implemented Energy Conservation Measures

REVIT/ BIM/ CAD

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a building.  It relies on a coordinated 3D model of the building that includes the Architecture, Structural systems, Mechanical systems, Plumbing systems, and Electrical systems.

It becomes a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle.  HODGE uses a variety of CAD (Computer Aided Design) software programs including AutoCAD and REVIT to create the BIM 3D model that is used for life-cycle and cost analysis.

CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION

  • If you are concerned and/or unfamiliar with the construction process in addition to having a lean staff who has more important tasks running your business, HODGE provides Construction Contract Administration (CCA) services.  A staff of knowledgeable professionals is available to provide an “Owner’s Representative” to look out for the owner’s interests and address issues and concerns that arise in the construction process; additionally reducing owner liability.
